For my first ever blog entry (drumroll), I want to discuss someone who has, over the years, become my favorite fictional character: Tony Soprano. As the show "The Sopranos" ends this sunday, i seem to be missing Tony already. Because I will miss debating whether he is a good guy or not. I will miss Carmella and the crew. But most of all, the debate.
He killed with his bare hands, on occasion close freinds and relatives. Screwed anything that moved, just for the hell of it. And everything was justified as business, or something that a man has got to do. But he alway came back to his family. The unfliching love for the wife and the kids. And that offset everything. Did it? He is the best, the most intriguing character to hit TV.
If hes killed in the grand finale, it will be like a triumph of good vs evil. I mean, how can a man who is so morally desolate, and on the surface devoid of any virtue, be allowed to live. Right? I mean, he had to go. For all of us who have faith in the "grand scheme of things", that good people will end up happy and bad people will get what they deserve, we need this. We need to know and believe that there is justice? That it somehow all balances out?
But if he lives. That would be life in a microcasm. The "bad guy" doesnt always get caught, good doesnt truimph over evil, and world remains just the way it is for yet another day.
Thats actually what Im hoping for. Sopranos was the most 'real' show I have ever seen, apart from the 'Wire'. If Tony dies, then that would be one of those cheesy hollywood endings which just doesnt gel with this show.
Anyway, whatever happens, Tony Soprano will be missed.
Other stuff:
NBA Finals Game 2: hope Lebron finds some way to make this thing interesting. Anything involving the Spurs just takes the caffine out. Im pretty sure the Spurs are going to win. And like always, Ill just try to forget that this season ever took place, just like 2003 and 2005.
